A Home for Generations: 355 Eveline Street and the Red River Métis Vision
Overlooking the Red River in Selkirk, Manitoba, 355 Eveline Street is more than just a building—it’s a symbol of community, resilience, and cultural pride. Developed by the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), this six-story, mixed-use residential complex is the first of its kind for the Red River Métis Government, designed to provide safe, affordable housing for Elders and seniors in the heart of a historic Métis community.
A Vision Realized
Officially opened in April 2025, the 77,900-square-foot building includes 49 residential units, with more than half dedicated to affordable housing. The project is part of the MMF’s broader commitment to addressing the housing crisis among Red River Métis citizens, especially those most in need of stability and support.
The building also includes commercial spaces, a Red River Métis pharmacy, a community common area, and a fitness room, creating a vibrant and supportive environment for residents.
Building with Purpose: JELD-WEN Windows and Doors
To ensure long-term comfort and performance, the project incorporated high-quality fixed and awning windows finished with FiniShield™ from JELD-WEN of Canada. These windows were selected for their:
- Energy efficiency: Helping reduce heating costs during Manitoba’s long winters.
- Low maintenance: FiniShield™ resists fading, chalking, and peeling.
- Ventilation and light: Awning windows allow airflow even during rain, while fixed windows frame scenic views of the Red River.
In addition, steel entry doors from JELD-WEN were installed to provide:
- Enhanced security for residents.
- Thermal insulation to maintain indoor comfort.
- A clean, modern aesthetic that complements the building’s design.

A Community-Centered Future
The MMF’s investment in 355 Eveline Street aligns with the City of Selkirk’s Downtown Renewal Strategy, which emphasizes walkability, sustainability, and inclusive urban development 2. The project not only provides housing but also strengthens the cultural and economic fabric of the downtown core.
This development is a testament to what’s possible when Indigenous leadership, thoughtful design, and community values come together. With durable, energy-efficient windows and doors from JELD-WEN of Canada, 355 Eveline Street is built not only to serve today’s residents but to stand strong for generations—reflecting a shared commitment to comfort, security, and sustainability in the heart of Selkirk’s Métis community.
